Community feedback requested for Chelsea superintendent of schools search

By Crystal Hayduk

Rich Ramsey, the consultant from the Michigan Association of School Boards who is assisting the Chelsea School District Board of Education in their search for a superintendent, conducted a community meeting on Nov.18.

Ramsey distributed a list of the meeting dates and reviewed the basic agenda for each meeting. He said that all meetings will be open to the public.

A complete list of dates can be found under the “Special and Non-Regularly Scheduled Meetings” link here. It should be noted that the meeting for March 7 has been rescheduled for March 9.

All members of the community are encouraged to provide input to the board about what education, experience, qualities, and leadership style the next superintendent should possess.

This information can easily be shared through a survey by clicking on “Superintendent Search Information” on the school district’s website here.

The survey is currently active, but responses must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Dec. 1. (This is earlier than the previous deadline in order to allow for timely compilation and feedback to school board members.)

Dexter Township resident Jennifer Kundak inquired about the possibility of superintendent candidates doing presentations for the public. Ramsey said that he encourages school boards to ask the candidates to prepare and give a presentation at the second interview.

“This presentation often separates one candidate from another, making the choice more clear,” he said.

Ramsey said that ultimately, the final choice of which candidate is selected as the next superintendent will be a decision of the board of education.

The Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 to review input from school district staff and the community.
