Conner Zahn, Jack McCalla take top pig honors at Chelsea Community Fair (with slide show)

Conner Zahn and Mr. Oinkers took home one of the two top pig honors Tuesday night, besting about 90 swine as the grand champion of the 80th Annual Chelsea Community Fair.

“He’s friendly, but stubborn,” Conner said of the winning pig, adding that “he’s a little lazy, but still a really nice pig.”

He judge said Mr. Oinkers had a bigger butt, more muscle and he was longer than the other pigs, Conner said.

The 12 year old, in his sixth year showing pigs at fair, said he was really excited about the win.

In addition, he was also thrilled for his younger sister, EllaHaven whose pigs Moana and Poowa were chosen as the reserve grand champion pair.

“Poowa is feisty sometimes,” she said, but of all the pigs she’s shown, these two were some of her favorites.

Grand Champion pair of pigs went to Seven and Ten, 11-year-old Jack McCalla’s two pigs who weighed in at 265 pounds and 275 pounds. His first major pig win was at 6 years old — his first time showing at fair. He has had champions in 2013 and 2015 as well.

Jack said that he chose to raise pigs because “it’s a family tradition and easier than raising cows.”

Reserve grand champion pig went to Kylie Kuebler.
