Daphne named Top Dog of Chelsea

Meet Daphne, the Top Dog of Chelsea.

Daphne, a black Labrador retriever owned by Michelle McCarthy was recently crowned the Top Dog of Chelsea.

She was sponsored by the Arctic Breakaway Restaurant and Rich Colensky, manager of the restaurant, offered a “Daphne Gumbo” on the menu during the contest and donated $2 from sales of the gumbo to the contestant.

In second place was Bear, owned by Joe Merkel and sponsored by Wolverine Food and Spirits, and third place went to Jacques, owned by Laura Scriven and sponsored by the Global Marketplace.

A total of $5,218 was raised by the contest, which will go to the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Washtenaw Community College.

Barb Marshall, organizer of the contest and fundraiser for ACS, said she expected to raise about $1,400 more than she did last year, according a press release.

She has raised almost $30,000 for the walk this year and more than $150,000 overall for the walk.
