(Chelsea Update would like to thank Cheryl Greaney for the information and the Log Cabin Day photo in this story.)

Log Cabin Day is a statewide event in Michigan and the Waterloo Area Historical Society joins the celebration of our pioneer families at our 1840’s Log House at the Waterloo Farm Museum.

Visitors to the log house will hear stories of how hard but interesting life was for our ancestors here in Michigan on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 from noon to 5 p.m.

Our blacksmith friends from the Michigan Artistic Blacksmith Association have brought their forges to this event for over 14 years. They create beauty forged from a piece of iron and amaze our guests with demonstrations of their many talents.

Children visiting the farm will have the opportunity to see Civil War soldiers and civilian camps from the 1860’s and get the chance to see what life was like for a soldier and his family.

The Dewey School, located at 11501 Territorial Road, will be open with a “School Marm” in attendance to give a taste of a one room school house and the many “rules” the students had to follow.

Many vendors and artisans will be on hand including the Waterloo Needlework Club teaching quilting; demonstrations of how socks were created on an 1870’s sock machine, rug weavers, wool spinning and knapping arrowheads.

The Waterloo Farm Museum is located at 13493 Waterloo-Munith Road in Grass Lake.

Admission to the Waterloo Farm Museum for this event is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 5-12.  There is no admission charge for children under 5 years and members of the Waterloo Area Historical Society. Admission includes a guided tour of the 10-room farmhouse
