The Chelsea High School Theater Guild and the Chelsea Theater Boosters will present “Black Comedy,” Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. , and Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center auditorium.

Written by Peter Shaffer, “Black Comedy” is staged under a reversed lighting scheme. The play opens on a darkened stage, and a few minutes into the show there is a short circuit, and the stage is illuminated to reveal the characters in a “blackout.”

So, here’s what happens. Without permission, Brindsley Miller, a young sculptor, and his debutante fiancé, Carol Melkett, have borrowed some expensive, antique furniture from neighbor, Harold’s, flat while he’s out of town.

They want to impress both an elderly millionaire art collector coming to view Brindsley’s work, as well as Carol’s exceptionally stern and protective father, Colonel Melkett.

See what happens when the power fails, Harold returns early, and Brindsley’s ex-mistress, Clea, shows up unexpectedly.

This is a quick-paced, clever and unpredictable play directed by Carrie Jay Sayer.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors and are available at Chelsea Pharmacy or at the door.

All seats are general admission.
