Michigan State Police awarded five-year lease agreement by Sylvan Board

Sylvan Township Hall

The Michigan State Police have a new five-year contract with Sylvan Township to use portions of Township Hall as a substation and to park 15 vehicles in the lot at 18027 Old US-12

The agreement, which costs the state police nothing, was unanimously approved on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at the regular Township Board meeting.

The motion was moved by Trustee Reuben Lesser and seconded by Trustee Scott Cooper.

Sylvan Township uses the State Police as its law enforcement agency, and the lease runs through Dec. 31, 2017.

In other business, the board also unanimously approved the appointment of seven election inspectors for the Nov. 6 general election. They are Shirley Schneider, the chairman, Veretta Whitaker, Linda Pearsall, Betty Murphy, Dan and Peggy Nutt and Leah Herrick.

The motion was moved by Cooper and seconded by Treasurer Arlene Grau.

The Board of Trustees also conveyed its condolences to the Daniels Family, who lives in Sylvan Township, on the passing of Bob Daniels on Sept. 1.

“We lost a quiet gentleman and the community will miss him,” said Supervisor Bob Lange.
