UMRC offering certified nursing assistant training; upfront costs

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Karyn Clow for the information in this story.)

Chelsea Retirement Community, (UMRC) is launching a new program that is committed to paying associated fees upfront for qualifying candidates while training and testing to become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant).

UMRC is seeking second career candidates or those looking for a new, rewarding career to participate in its pilot program entitled: CNA Career Pathway.

This unique opportunity allows for individuals, who may have been out of the workforce for several years, to start a new career without feeling burdened by the upfront cost of continuing education, training, and certification.

Participants of the CNA Career Pathway not only get their education paid for upfront; UMRC will ALSO pay a competitive hourly wage to those students during their training. This program is geared toward individuals who are passionate about caregiving and those who are searching for a way to positively impact the lives of others in a new career.

Michelle Baldwin Henderson, UMRC vice president of Human Resources, and Angela Serpetti, human resources – Workforce Planning Specialist, are spearheading this program that provides a unique opportunity for candidates to make a competitive hourly wage while they’re training and completing their certification. Space is limited, and we encourage applicants to submit requests to participate in this program prior to Oct. 31. Partners leading the clinical education and training include Washtenaw Community College and Jackson College.

Candidates who complete this program are expected to commit to a minimum of 1 year of employment at UMRC.  Successful candidates will be placed in the Kresge Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center on the campus of Chelsea Retirement Community for 2nd or 3rd shift positions.

“We are excited to offer this program at Chelsea Retirement Community that supports those who naturally enjoy caring for others within a new career. Our goal is to employ caring individuals for a long-term partnership.  As one of my favorite quotes by Betty Bender states, ‘When people go to work, they shouldn’t have to leave their hearts at home.’”

~ Michelle Baldwin Henderson, UMRC – Vice President/Human Resources
